Paper Marbling & Book Making

Saturday, September 23, 10am – 4pm

Marbling is the centuries old art of creating colorful patterns by floating pigments on a pan of water and then transferring this pattern to a surface, such as paper or fabric.
In the morning you’ll create beautiful patterns on a variety of papers that you can use for book and card making, calligraphy, framing and more. In the afternoon, we’ll make some simple book structures that will show off the beautiful papers you’ve created. Students will leave class with approximately 20 sheets of marbled paper.

Please bring an apron and brown bag lunch.  Space is limited to 4 students.  Class will take place in my Western Avenue studio (#321).  Cost $99.99. I hope you can join me!

Introduction to Handmade Books

Saturdays, October 14 – November 4, 9:30am – 12:30pm (4 weeks)

This 4-week class is a great introduction to the fundamentals of handcrafted books. Participants learn how to fold, cut and sew paper using specialist bookbinding tools, and will create 10+ versatile book structures, including accordion, flag, squash, pamphlet, Japanese stab bindings, long stitch and other decorative stitched bindings.

Your books can be used to present work, to personalise and give as gifts, or as the basis for artists’ books. Students will leave with a set of their own books and the skills to make more at home.

Class runs from 9:30am -12:30pm on Saturday mornings. A small tool list will be sent out to participants before class begins. All materials provided.
