10 Awesome Gelli Printing Videos
This year I’ve made a number of gelli print books and I’ve got quite a few questions about how to make gelli/gelatin prints. My focus on this blog is showing you how to make books and I think other people do a much better job of showing you how to print with a gelli plate than I would. So, after spending hours and hours on YouTube, I’ve put together my top 10 gelli videos for you. Enjoy!
One quick note: if you’re new to gelatin printing, I’d suggest taking a class if you can. I’ve taken one live class with Adria Arch and an intensive online class with Linda Germain, and it was definitely worth the investment.
Best Beginner Video
If you’re brand new to gelli printing and haven’t even cracked open the packaging on your plate, then start with Roben-Marie Smith’s Gelli Arts Monoprinting Plate Tutorial. She covers all the basic print pulling techniques and introduces stencils, masks and mark making.
Stamping with Gelli Plates
Gelli Arts, the makers of the Gelli Plate, produce great videos. Two of my favorites demonstrate how to stamp with their plates. Gelli Stamping Layered Circles uses 3 sizes of the round gelli plates together with stencils and texture tools to create a colorful, layered journal page. Stamping with Gelli uses the smaller 5″ x 7″ and 3″ x 5″ plates as stamps to make some fun patchwork journal pages.
Printing on Fabric
I haven’t tried making prints on fabric, but it looks like a lot of fun in Judy Shea’s video Fabric Printing with the Gelli Plate. She prints on cotton and uses a fabric paint medium called GAC900. Also, I’d recommend watching 2 short slideshow videos by Linda Germain, which show some good examples of her work: Monoprinting on Fabric and Make Monotypes on Fabric.
Get Arty
Once you’ve mastered the basics, take it up a notch:
Create a faux intaglio print effect using a piece of fun foam and a pen in Intaglio-Inspired Gelli Printing or add some words to your print with Gelli Printing Words. Carolyn Dube, who is known for diving in and experimenting with new products, shows us how to use Paint Markers on a Gelli Plate. And finally learn a resist technique by applying soft gel medium to a gelli plate in Clearly Gelli Printed.
The possibilities are endless! Do you have a favorite gelli printing video? Please share a link in the comments!
