Beyond The Book Show
I checked out some of the artists’ books in this year’s Beyond The Book show, an annual juried exhibit of artists’ books and collage. Pieces were shown at the Faneuil and Brighton branches of the Boston Public Library and even though I was only able to visit the Faneuil branch, the pieces I saw were great.
There was a range of book structures that lent themselves well to display, such as accordion books, single signature pamphlets, scrolls, star/carousel and tunnel books. There were also altered books, small books displayed in a printer tray and a book made from a cigar box.
Here’s a couple of my favorites:
A scroll book called Family Circle by Gail Goito.
A set of 6 accordion books housed in a box called Fragments by Dianne Dolan.
A book titled Haiku by Ann Forbush with a granite cover!
A shaped accordion book in a box called Love Thy Neighbor by Alice Stanne.
And finally, a great mixed media collage called Book Shelf by Gail Hansen.
It was a great show – I will definitely check it out next year.
