Collaged Flag Book
While experimenting with accordion folds recently, I decided to make a Flag Book. Oh my gosh – I love this book structure. It’s so sculptural and fun – this is going to be the first of many!
I repurposed a vintage book to create the two covers, discarding the original spine and replacing it with an accordion spine made from card stock.
I created a collage using vintage papers, including old letters, book pages, sheet music, postage stamps and some handmade papers. Once dry, I cut this larger piece into the flags and attached them to the accordion spine.
I attached twine to the back cover to secure the book when it’s not being displayed on a shelf. I chose twine to complement the earthy colors and botanical drawings in the collaged flags.
This is book number 31 in my quest to make 50 different book structures. If you’ve missed the previous 30, you can see them on The 50 Book Project page. And if you’d like to be notified when I add new ones, please sign up for my newsletter.
