Easy Envelope Book Tutorial
If you’re looking for a simple book structure that requires minimal materials (and time!), this envelope book tutorial might be the perfect fit. It can hold gift cards, notes, or any small bits of art.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
This is a simple project that requires just a few common tools and supplies:
- 9″ x 12″ paper (results in 3″ x 3″ book)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Bone folder
- Scissors or knife
- Glue stick (optional)
Step 2: Mark and Score Paper
Starting on the short edge, make marks at 3″ and 6″ to split the page into thirds. Repeat in the center and at the other short edge.
Use a ruler to connect the dots and score.
Step 3: Fold the Paper
Fold along the score lines in both directions, pressing the crease with a bone folder. Then fold the paper in half, short edge to short edge.
Fold one short edge to the center crease and bone fold. Repeat on the other side. When all of the folding is complete, you should have 12 quadrants.
Step 4: Complete the Book
Mark your cut lines as illustrated in the video and make the cut. Fold the top and bottom rows of squares in half to create triangle shapes.
Fold down the top two flaps, then fold up the bottom two flaps. Finally, fold the paper into a four-panel accordion to finish the book!
Step 5: Closure
If desired, you can add a quick closure to hold the book together. Ali uses a simple piece of elastic with a button for her book.
That’s it! This envelope book tutorial will take less than an hour to follow, meaning you can make lots of these cute little books. If you’re ready to make another book, check out Ali’s 3-Hole Pamphlet Stitch Journal tutorial.
