February Journal Prompts

February is here, bringing with it a fresh opportunity for reflection and growth. This month’s journaling prompts invite you to explore themes of renewal, intention, and observation. From shedding what no longer serves you to embracing a guiding word for the year, these prompts are designed to help you deepen your self-awareness and connection to the world around you. Whether you’re writing about your ideal weekend or noticing the subtle shifts in nature as winter transitions to spring, take time to slow down and put your thoughts on the page. Let’s dive into our February journal prompts!

Journal Prompt #1

The Lunar New Year, based on the Chinese lunisolar calendar, began on January 28th. Each new year is marked by a different animal, and 2025 is the year of the snake. According to Chinese astrology, the snake represents opportunities for growth and change. When I think of snakes, I always think of them shedding their skin.

Write about what you would like to shed during this year ahead in order to grow. What could you eliminate from your life that would give you space for growth? For example, a toxic relationship, expectations, a volunteer position that takes too much time, physical possessions.

Journal Prompt #2

Like many of you, I chose a word of the year to reflect upon and guide me through the upcoming twelve months. My word for 2025 is NOURISH. Reflect upon what this word means to you or your own chosen word of the year.

Journal Prompt #3

In a recent newsletter, I wrote about my perfect weekend and how to an outsider it might look boring. Write about your ideal way to spend Saturday and Sunday—boring or not.

Journal Prompt #4

February is a bridge between winter’s quiet and the first whispers of spring. I definitely notice that the days are slowly growing longer, and each week there’s a little more light even if we are still getting regular snowfall. What changes are you noticing? Take 5 minutes and really observe what you see outside your window and write about it in your journal. Do the same next week and the week after—look for those tiny changes.

As February unfolds, take these prompts as an invitation to slow down, reflect, and embrace the changes—both within and around you. Whether you’re shedding old habits, focusing on your word of the year, or simply observing the world outside your window, each journaling session is a chance to gain clarity and insight. Keep writing, stay curious, and enjoy the journey of self-discovery this month. Happy journaling!

HI! I’M ALI MANNING

Years ago, I learned about handmade books, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I love creating new designs, learning about different techniques, and expanding my collection of paper. But what I love most about bookmaking is the community.

Through Vintage Page Designs and the Handmade Book Club, I’ve met thousands of other passionate bookmakers, mixed-media artists, and crafters. We all share a love of book arts and crafting, just for the joy of it.

I believe that bookbinding and book arts are for everyone, regardless of skill level or equipment. All you need is a little creativity and, of course, paper!

  1. Thank you for the link to this blog post….
After having survived a totally horrendous 2024, I made the decision to have more to show for my days….less time spent mindlessly wandering round the internet and more time spent creating…in fact, I chose Creativity as my word for 2025. January was spent researching types of journals and deciding on what way I wanted to go- I now have a basic bullet journal set up to get me more organised, a writing journal (which I was still deciding how to write in 🙄 ) and an art journal. I’m gradually developing the journaling habit – bullet and art journals are getting regularly used – and these prompts are just what I needed to get the writing going as I can relate to them! 🥰. Too many of the journaling prompt suggestions that I’ve seen are just one word and I can’t seem to expand on them but these questions are great for getting me going….thank you Ali ☺️
