Make a Handmade Coptic Journal in 5 Days
There are so many book structures out there that it can be difficult to know where to begin. Luckily, our next 5-Day Challenge is the perfect way to test out bookbinding. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve made hundreds of books or never made a book at all! The 5-Day Coptic Journal Challenge requires just one thing—the willingness to try.
Ali’s next 5-Day Challenge begins on November 28th and this is our last challenge of 2022!
What Is the Coptic Journal 5-Day Challenge?
Ali created the 5-Day Challenge to encourage everyone in the crafting community to come together and make handmade books. The challenge runs for five days, and our team is there every step of the way to help you complete your book and have a fun experience!
We keep the supplies for the challenge as simple as possible so anyone can participate. You can view the full supply list here. We’re also offering kits for the challenge if you’d like the supplies sent right to you—more information is available after signing up.
The coptic stitch is a classic bookbinding method. If you can get the hang of this stitch, you’ll be well on your way to making all sorts of handmade books! This coptic journal lies flat when open, which means it’s a great structure for writing and artwork. Of course, it also looks adorable on any bookshelf and would make a great gift for the holiday season.
How Does the Coptic Journal Challenge Work?
When you sign up for the challenge, you get access to a welcome video and other helpful information. While you wait for the challenge to begin on November 28th, you can join our challenge Facebook group and get to know the community.
Once the challenge begins, you receive a new instructional video each day. In these videos, Ali gives step-by-step instructions on how to create the next part of your book. We provide printable instructions in case you like taking notes! By day five, you’ll have all of the videos you need to complete your coptic journal.
We want you to succeed and have a great time, so the challenge also includes twice daily Zoom calls where you can ask questions, win prizes, and get additional tips and ideas! If you can’t make the 12 PM EST or 7 PM EST calls, they are recorded and uploaded to the challenge website for your convenience.
Once you finish your book, it’s time to celebrate. You can join Ali’s wrap-up party on December 5th. If you can’t finish your book during challenge week, that’s okay too! Your purchase of the challenge gives you lifetime access to all of the challenge materials so you can make the coptic journal again and again.

Can Beginners Join the 5-Day Challenge?
Absolutely. We recommend having some crafting experience, but bookbinding experience is not necessary. The instructional videos are clear and easy to follow, and our team will answer any questions you may have.
You can also ask questions in the challenge Facebook group—the challenge community is always happy to help and provide inspiration.
