Marbled Notebook with Z Stitch Binding
It’s time for a new book binding and number 17 in my 50 Book Project. This is another 2-section binding from Volume II of Keith Smith’s Non-Adhesive Binding, 1- 2- & 3-Section Sewings. Remember, the other one was an Alpha stitch – yes, I know I owe you a tutorial for that – it’s on my to-do list 🙂
What’s a 2-section binding?
A 2-section binding has 2 signatures. You create a signature when you fold a stack of paper in half to form pages. When you nestle the folded pages inside each other, you get a signature. There’s usually 4-6 sheets of paper in each signature, which gives you 8-12 pages. This book has two 4-sheet/8-page signatures (see below).
The cover is made from thick black card stock which has been partially covered with marbled paper. And the pattern created on the spine is like a Z, hence Z-stitch binding.
If you don’t want to miss any of the books I make in the 50-Book Project, please sign up for my weekly newsletter. Have an awesome weekend!

I bought his Volume 3 book, sight unseen a few years ago, it is a bummer that there is no look inside the book on amazon. Again , I would love your comments and thoughts about the binding, pros and cons and comparisons. Why should I choose this binding? Thank you
