Tools for Bookmaking – My 13 Most Essential
Picking your favorite tools for bookmaking is like picking your favorite children! But Mikki recently asked me this question about my most favorite tools when we were creating my new studio space. The intention was so that I could put those particular items closest to me on the work bench. (Makes sense!)
This isn’t always the easiest question to answer. It feels like my list of essential tools for bookmaking is ever changing! But for today, these are the the ones that I use the most and would take with me to a deserted island. Or, at least place closest to me in my studio. 😉 Watch the video and let us know about your favorite tools! A printable version is at the end of the post. Please note that I’m not affiliated with any of these suppliers.

I always keep a roll of dollar store waxed paper handy when I glue paper/fabric to book board. I place sheets under my materials to catch errant glue drips that are easy to wipe up. This spares my cutting mat/table. When I’ve taught book-making classes, I’ve always supplied 1”-1.5” cheap foam brushes to apply PVC or Yes! adhesives as opposed to more costly bristle brushes. Foam brushes spread glue smoother and faster thus giving more time to properly position cover material on board and execute sharp, even corners which can be tricky for newcomers.
