Making Space for Creativity and Gratitude
Last Wednesday morning, I spent 20 minutes in my favorite café, sipping a cappuccino, listening to music, and stitching in a little fabric book. You might be thinking, “Only 20 minutes?” But honestly, it was enough to re-center me for the rest of the day.

It wasn’t anything dramatic like waking up at 5 a.m. or retreating to a mountaintop. It was late morning, halfway through the day. I had already prepped lunch, walked the dog, and tidied the kitchen. But carving out those 20 minutes felt like magic.
That small pocket of time reminded me that we don’t need hours to feel creative. Even a few mindful minutes can shift everything — our mood, our energy, and our sense of connection to ourselves.
Why Small Creative Moments Matter
As we move into the busy fall season, it’s easy for our creative time to get swallowed up by everything else. Between family commitments, holiday prep, and daily routines, our sketchbooks and journals can sit quietly on the shelf waiting for “someday.”
But what if we didn’t wait?
What if you gave yourself permission to show up for just 20 minutes a day, not to produce something perfect, but simply to make space for color, paper, texture, and gratitude?

These small creative breaks are powerful forms of self-care. They help you slow down, reconnect with what you love, and carry that sense of calm into the rest of your day.
Those are the questions that inspired something new inside the Handmade Book Club this November.
Introducing Making Space: 14 Days of Creativity and Gratitude
Making Space is a gentle, guided 14-day creative journaling experience designed to help you carve out 20 minutes a day for creativity. There’s no pressure and no perfection, just small moments of making and reflection.
Together, we’ll create a simple handmade book and fill it with guided prompts that become a keepsake of your November creativity and gratitude.

A Final Thought
That morning in the café reminded me that creativity doesn’t need ideal conditions. You don’t have to wait for a free weekend or the perfect studio setup. Sometimes, 20 minutes and a cappuccino are all you need to feel like yourself again.
Here’s to making space for creativity, gratitude, and a few quiet moments that truly matter.

HI! I’M ALI MANNING
Years ago, I learned about handmade books, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I love creating new designs, learning about different techniques, and expanding my collection of paper. But what I love most about bookmaking is the community.
Through Vintage Page Designs and the Handmade Book Club, I’ve met thousands of other passionate bookmakers, mixed-media artists, and crafters. We all share a love of book arts and crafting, just for the joy of it.
I believe that bookbinding and book arts are for everyone, regardless of skill level or equipment. All you need is a little creativity and, of course, paper!
