With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I wanted our first bookbinding workshop of the year to celebrate love in a special way. This heart-shaped long stitch design, a cherished project from the Handmade Book Club archives, felt like the perfect choice. Its romantic theme inspired the name for this special weekend-long class: Valentine Palooza!
What Is Valentine Palooza?
Valentine Palooza is a weekend workshop designed to bring together bookbinding enthusiasts, curious crafters, and beginners from around the world. This event is perfect for anyone who wants to dive into the art of handmade books while celebrating the spirit of love.
During the workshop, you’ll create a stunning journal featuring a heart-shaped stitch along the spine—a timeless design that’s both beautiful and functional. Whether you’re making it for yourself or as a thoughtful Valentine’s gift, this project is sure to be cherished.

What to Expect
Our workshop is thoughtfully structured to fit your schedule and skill level:
- Step-by-Step Lessons: You’ll get access to pre-recorded video tutorials with clear, detailed instructions. Videos launch on Thursday, January 30, giving you time to gather materials and get started.
- Live Zoom Sessions: Join us on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1st, for live Zoom calls to connect with fellow participants, share your progress, and get answers to your questions. These sessions are always lively and full of inspiration!
- Wrap-Up Party: On Saturday, February 8th, we’ll come together for a wrap-up party to celebrate and admire all the beautiful books created during the workshop.

Years ago, I learned about handmade books, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I love creating new designs, learning about different techniques, and expanding my collection of paper. But what I love most about bookmaking is the community.
Through Vintage Page Designs and the Handmade Book Club, I’ve met thousands of other passionate bookmakers, mixed-media artists, and crafters. We all share a love of book arts and crafting, just for the joy of it.
I believe that bookbinding and book arts are for everyone, regardless of skill level or equipment. All you need is a little creativity and, of course, paper!
