We hold Open Studios at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA on the first Saturday of every month but as the Covid 19 crisis has forced us to close the building to the public, we’re holding a Virtual Open Studio event instead. Normally, I do some form of demonstration but today I’m taking it online instead. Check out the paste paper demo I did today on my Facebook page.
Paste papers are one of the earliest methods used to decorate paper. From the late 16th century through to the 18th century they were predominately used as book covers and as end sheets. Flour and water is combined to make a paste and pigment is added for color. The colored paste is spread onto paper and patterns formed with homemade tools and even the maker’s fingers.
If you would like to be notified when the studio is open again for classes, please enter your name and address below.
